Does “Made the USA” Mean it’s Ethical?

We all love a good deal, but did you ever stop to think about the cost behind a $5 t-shirt or a $40 cocktail dress? We forget, or maybe don’t even realize, that there is a human cost to cheap clothes and fast fashion. Furthermore, when most of us think of “Made in the USA,” we think of safe working conditions and fair wages. Sadly, this is not necessarily the truth.

No one is saying you need to break the bank on your wardrobe. But your clothes should come from brands that manufacture responsibly and pay fair wages––whether here in the U.S. or abroad. And that does come with a higher price tag than fast fashion. As they say in the documentary below, garment labor is skilled labor. Not everyone can do it. Those that can should be paid fairly for their services.

I encourage you to watch this short, ten minute, documentary about the garment industry here in the U.S. You might be shocked about what you learn. I hope it informs you, and aids you along your journey as a conscious consumer.
